Poldark questions

How does the clip create intrigue, excitement or interest for the audience? The sudden gun shots. The importance of the ring on his finger. What did he have to escape from. Why are they actually there. Who is the girl it flashed back to, why did he leave her? The clip uses enigmas to intrigue the audience and leave them asking questions. It leaves unanswered questions which make the viewers want to carry on watching. The genre is a historical drama, I can tell because of the outfits they are wearing, the guns they are carrying, the sounds of the horses in the background, the way they speak to each other and the visual text we see that tells us the year and place. The clip says that it is in the 1700s, and is based in America. What typical conventions of tv drama are in the clip? The use of conflict. The start of establishing the environment before the characters. The romance. Three potential audiences for the programme People who generally like tv dramas/ historical act...

Regulation Questions

Regulation Questions Q1) Why is regulation of the media important? Give examples of what might happen without regulation. Media regulation is the control or guidance of mass media by governments and other bodies. It is very important as it helps prevent anything disturbing, unnecessary and anything that can be harmful to viewers from being released to the public. It helps to protect the viewers, and anybody involved. Media regulation can help prevent people from being wrongly accused by false accusations, by preventing newspapers and other platforms from producing false information. Newspapers often use bias in their headlines, therefore the use of media regulation can provide a much more neutral response from the public. 2) How was newspaper regulation as shown in the docudrama "The last Honour of Christopher Jeffries" ineffective. The newspaper regulation that was used in "The last Honour of Christopher Jeffries" was very ineffective, as the newspapers ...

Use of sound in Jaws https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rW23RsUTb2Y T he use of sound in this clip from Jaws creates meaning for the audience.  The diegetic sound is the conversation between Chief Martin Brody and the man on the beach. The screams from the children on the beach as they run into the sea are also diegetic sounds. The non-diegetic sounds are the sinister, deep music as the shark rises up to the children swimming in the sea.  The ambient sounds that we hear are the footsteps of the children running across the beach and the splashing of the water as they run into the sea. The synchronous sounds are the screaming of the children and the parents shouting their children as they discover there is a shark in the water. Also, the deep, menacing music as the shark rises in the water. The sound adds to the verisimilitude of the scene, as the screaming of the children create a sense of reality, and how accurate it would be if something like this was to ha...
1) How are people and places represented in the film bullet boy? The young men in the film reinforce the stereotypes of young threats to society, with gang crime etc. Ricky is a good example as he is represented as dangerous and a risk, the start of the film portrays him as a criminal as we see him being released from prison. He is also shown as having a negative impact on his families lives, which results in his little brother almost killing his friend. His little brother Curtis is affected by the area he lives in, (a rough part of London) which results in him accidentally shooting a gun (which belongs to Ricky) into the shoulder of Rio, almost killing him. However, the female characters are presented as strong and independent, which challenges the stereotypes of women being weak and vulnerable. As Ricky's mother Beverley appears to have brought Ricky and Curtis up on her own, until his step father stepped in to help out. She also had the courage to kick Ricky out of the house i...

Analysing Hawaii Five O

Analysing Hawaii Five O 1) How does the programme show the crime drama genre? Hawaii Five O shows the crime drama genre because it shows the agents throughout the film using violence to the extent of the law. Throughout the programme we see violence and crime as the prisoners beat up the guards as they terrorise the prison in search of Chin. The setting of a prison portrays the programme as a crime genre. The police and criminals in the programme represents the genre of crime as the criminals commit crime and the police prevent it. The acts that the criminals take also portray crime, e.g the attacks that the criminals take on Chin. 2) How is gender represented in the programme? The males are represented as dominant which reinforces the stereotypes of males being strong and powerful throughout the programme as the police seem strong and the criminals in the prison are powerful for example masculinity is reinforced through the characters of Steve and Danny, who are shown as power...

Violence in the media There are several examples where violence in the media can personally effect viewers, and cause them to perform violent acts like murder and torturing. These examples make viewers question why some of these people are able to get their hands on these, and some extreme responses are should violence in the media be banned completely? This example shows that the boy, 9 years under the age of the recommended age for GTA IV, has shot his grandmother, just like he would in the game and possibly thinking that she would come back to life as the main characters would in game. This leaves the mystery of how an underage child was able to gain access of this game and why he was left to play it unsupervised. Although people could argue that it is the fault of the game and the manufacturers, many people would completely disagree because the age rating has been put on the game for a reason: to prevent things like this from happening. The counter arguments are also is it t...

The dominant response that viewers would have to this film poster are to avoid going into the woods/forests at night. The thought of running into Jason is enough to put off a timid audience from taking a stroll through a strange dark place. The response some viewers will have are that places can be more dangerous at night and to stay away from them. In another sense, a dominant response may also be to go and watch the film due to liking the genre, or going out and buying it. The oppositional response that viewers may have are that Jason is not real, forests and places like this are not any more dangerous at night than they would be in the day and that they would not fear dark places as there is no reason to. The other oppositional response would be that the viewer does not generally like the genre of horror films, therefore would not go out and buy it. The negotiated response that some viewers may have are that they would agree to some extent e.g they would understand that Jason ...
